I used some coloured art bars and neocolour sticks to enhance it slightly, to bring out what I thought I could see, then I added some white marks to suggest water trickling over the rocks at the front. I'm not sure if other people can see what I can see but there is something about it that I really like. A place for quiet contemplation.
This was a completely unplanned adventure. I was preparing some coloured tissue for another project and I used up some remaining paint on a spare sheet of tissue, spreading the colours across very randomly. When it had dried I thought it looked vaguely like a landscape with some distant trees and something a bit rock-like in the foreground.

I left one of my part time jobs in March and was thrilled when a beautiful bouquet of flowers was delivered from my employer. such a lovely thing to do and the flowers were stunning. A very cleverly put together bouquet made mainly of soft muted greens, creams and mauves with lots of foliage textures. I took lots of photographs before it began to fade then made this mixed media picture which is now hanging in my house. It was made with an under layer of textured materials and coloured inks, then I worked over the top to bring out the foliage and flower shapes. I love this combination of green and purple. A friend of mine has a daughter with special needs and she asked me if I could paint something to brighten up a large wall in her bedroom. She gave me free reign about what to paint - a true 'blank canvas'. I chose these fuchsia flowers because the colours are bright and bold for her daughter to see and pinks and purples have always been her favourite colours. I wanted them to look as if they were dancing and having fun like two little girls in their best dancing dresses. when the painting was dry I stuck hundreds of little pearls and sparkly sequins around the petals to make the whole thing as girlie and sparkly as I could. I hope she likes it. The finished picture is about 20" x 30" and is done with acrylic paints on a box canvas. I started this water colour a while ago but it has been 'on hold' for a while as I felt it was unfinished and couldn't decide what was missing. Eventually I realised that although my focus was the rocks, the picture had no living element so today I added the two birds and now I'm happier with the end result. Last month I went to a workshop with a lovely artist called Seanna Mallen. She makes bright, lively pictures using pieces of painted tissue and during the whole-day workshop she showed us how to do it. I was not very happy with the picture that I made on the day but I learned a lot from Seanna (and from the mistakes that I made) and had another go when I got home. I am much happier with this one. It was based on a photo that I took in Cornwall last year in a place where we had to walk down a narrow, hedge-lined gully to get to a beautiful, sandy beach. Last week I went to the wedding of my niece. In my very small handbag I had my camera and a little piece of note paper and a pen. I wanted to capture and remember little details of the day, including the humour in the speeches, so that I could make a Memory Catcher for her and her new husband. If you know someone who would like one of these for a wedding or any other special occasion such as a birthday please use the Contact Me button to get in touch. There are more example on my Gallery pages here This is the iconic Seven Sisters coastline near where I live. It must have been photographed, drawn and painted millions of times so I wanted to do something a bit different. So if you look closely you will see that this is nearly all collage materials of various kinds with just a little paint on top. Can you see pieces of bus timetable in the windows? |
